Alexandra Middleton chatted with six of our favourite new wholesalers about their brands and most popular products. Collect Home, stand MSG T1020 SINCE: 2003 WEBSITE: collecthome.com.au HISTORY: While travelling around France and Spain, Collect Home owners Erica Solomon and Penny van Schaik kept coming across beautiful pieces created by Dutch company PTMD. The owners were drawn to the collection's energy, edginess and strong Latino feel. "What we loved was that every item had a deliberate style to it and didn't feel mass produced," says Solomon. "Each piece has real thought behind it and is a bit quirky." PRODUCT SPECIALTY: The PTMD collection includes tableware, lighting, bed linen, outdoor pots, glassware, furniture, and stone decorative pieces for in and outside the home. MOST POPULAR PRODUCT: Solomon predicts the lighting and outdoor items will be a hit with Home & Giving Fair attendees. OZ Candles, stand MSG T1007 SINCE: 197 7. WEBSITE: ozcandles.com.au HISTORY: OZ Candles first began as a little market stall in St Kilda in 1977, offering customers beautiful hand poured candles. Owner Sophie Jin took over the business two years ago and now plans to export the products to the Asian market, where she claims are becoming increasingly popular. PRODUCT SPECIALTY: OZ Candles sells both scented and unscented candles, with unique fragrances such as kiwi, kaori orange and grass. All candles are hand poured in Australia and the simple designs come in a variety of shapes and sizes. OZ Candle's range also includes candle holders, oil burners and candle raw materials and making tools.MOST POPULAR PRODUCT: OZ Candles' most popular products are their plain white candles, which are perfect for weddings and special occasions. Ottoman Hamam, stand MSG T2003 SINCE: 2013 CON TACT: lauderandhoward optusnet.com.au HISTORY: Wandering through the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, owners Les Lauder and Mark Howard stumbled across a shop called Genesis Hamam, selling organic hand-loomed towels. While they loved the quality of the products, it was the story of how the business began that won them over. Genesis Hamam is a collective of five family companies who were struggling to compete with mass production alone and were brought together by one woman to keep them from going out of business. PRODUCT SPECIALTY: The handmade towels are created using traditional Turkish dyes and looming methods. Because of the limited supply of traditional dyes, each set is unique in colour and only small numbers are available. MOST POPULAR PRODUCT: Traditional flat-weave towels.
